Project

The SPIRE (Surgical Procedural Interventional Recovery Expansion) project aims to enhance the surgical and gastroenterology facilities at the Palmerston North Hospital. The existing theatre suite will be expanded to include two additional theatres and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. The Gastroenterology Department will also see an increase in the number of procedure rooms, from two to four. Additionally, the flow of patients through the theatre and gastroenterology departments will be improved by expanding the Day of Surgery (DOSA) area and post-surgery recovery area.

The SPIRE (Surgical Procedural Interventional Recovery Expansion) project will be carried out in two stages. Stage 1 involved the construction of DOSA, Recovery, Gastroenterology, and staff areas. Stage 2 will include the installation of an ancillary plant on the rooftop, as well as the addition of the theatres and the cath lab. The cardiac catheterisation laboratory is an exciting new development, allowing many cardiac patients to receive treatment in Palmerston North instead of travelling to Wellington.
